Grover Cleveland’s attributes of solid honesty and good hard work were recalled today as the 124th anniversary of his birth was observed in the City Hall, Council chambers.
Dr. Paul G. Bulger, president of the State University College of Education at Buffalo, and Whitworth Ferguson, president of the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, extolled the memory of the former Buffalo mayor, New York governor and United States President.
“The best way to honor a great citizen who came from Buffalo is to constantly boost the city,” Mr. Ferguson said.
William R. Ortner and Rosemary Barry, Riverside High School seniors, read excerpts from Mr. Cleveland’s public speeches. About 150 students from Riverside and School 19 attended.
A wreath was placed on the bust of the former mayor in the City Hall corridor. William J. Ostrowski, deputy corporation counsel, represented Mayor Sedita. Irving R. Templeton was chairman.
